One Short Day

I played this song "One Short Day" from the musical "Wicked" for a couple of my music classes and had asked the children to draw what they heard, to draw the story that they heard in the music. The results were priceless! The second and thrid graders drew city scapes and happy girls and libraries and museums. Some drew green things, and street lights, and trees. A rare few caught on about it being the Emerald City, and made connections to the Wizard of Oz and drew welcome signs and Dororthy, where as many thought it was the "Emeril City" how cute!

This is my illistration of the music, inspired by my students. Glinda and Elphaba enjoying the city. This actually started as a doodle- and morphed into so much more. I didn't even realize how close to the broadway costumes I made them until I was finished and looked through my Wicked book. I like the kiosk cart and Elphie's boots the most.

The sign below is modeled from the famous electric sign in Scranton, PA, "Scranton- The Electric City"

Those are flying monkies. My mom calls them Bat-Monkies.
